Shankar Jaikishan produce the music and Shailendra provides the lyrics. Hardly surprising considering this combination has given hits like Awara, Aah, Barsaat under the RK banner. Head and shoulders above the rest is the impressive 'O Basanti Pavan', a beautifully crafted melody. A solid, elegant composition with light classical overtones, it is layered powerfully with the sarod and tabla, and occasionally the pakhawaj and manjiras. Lata Mangeshkar renders this fairly challenging tune immaculately. Jis Desh Mein Ganga Behti Hai is a score that is engaging but not spectacular. Some tracks like the sublime 'O Basanti Pavan' and the earnest title track stay with the listener. Not all the tracks are uniformly good, in fact other than the above two, 'Aa Ab Laut Chalen' is the only other worthy melody. This score depends less on orchestration vis-a-vis basic melody, though most tracks do show significant layering. Mukesh with his popular appeal and Lata with her technical soundness do full justice to these compositions. Although not their finest work, Shankar Jaikishan deserve credit for the three winners of this score.
